I've got good news and bad news

Yesterday was my first day alone with Isabel. Ryan headed back to work so it was just me and the kiddo chillin' the day away. It couldn't have been more easy and fun. I got a shower in the morning, had breakfast and lunch, and even had time for a nap. We had time to fit in a quick session of baby yoga (only our second one, so it went fast), and I managed some school work.

At 5pm-ish when Isabel woke up for her dinner I noticed she had a giant green goopy on her right eye. Hmmmm..better keep an eye on this. Well, the eye stayed weepy and always had some degree of goop on it. Ryan called the advice nurse, described the symptoms, left his phone number and was assured we'd get a call back from the doctor on call. So, we waited....and waited...and waited. We waited until 9 pm. At that point we needed to get her somewhere because the urgent care closed at 10. He called the advice nurse back to see what the deal was - they did call him back, only with the wrong phone number! I'd hate to see how that doctor treats patients. Anyway, it only cost us a few hours, but we were advised to take her to urgent care anyway.

The intake nurse at urgent care did the normal intake stuff like weight and temperature. What struck us as a little odd was the nurse trying to get the heart rate thingy on Isabel's index finger. I'm not kidding. A full size heart rate monitor made for an adult. Once she realized it would be impossible (her words, not mine. We only agreed), she did it the old fashioned way - she counted. We saw a nurse practitioner and not a doctor, but she was pretty alright. She was able to confirm the advice nurse's diagnosis - pink eye (that's the bad news).

We have no idea where she got it from. She's been around people, but nobody that was sick and certainly nobody with eye goop. Everyone who has handled her has been good about washing hands or not touching her when they were sick. So, it's our first illness and our first mystery illness in one shot. We have to give her drops 3 times a day for seven days. If it's not getting better in a day or two we need to bring her back. But, I think it's already getting better - slowly, but better.

The good news is she weighed 9.23 pounds! That's with a diaper and pajamas on, but still. A diaper and pjs can't weight that much. Her last weigh in was April 22 and she weighed 6.4 pounds. That's around a 2 1/2 pound gain in less than a month : ) Of course, she's been eating enough for a team of infants, but I'm super happy she's doing so well!

Today we took lunch to Ryan and stayed for a quick visit. It was my first solo outing with her. Other than hitting her on the head with the car seat handle (wasn't the first, hopefully will be the last) everything went well. We came back home and she stayed asleep : )

So far, so good.....
