We had a busy weekend. A distant relative (my second cousin twice removed) is in town doing some family research. My great-great-great grandfather owned one or two quartz mines in El Dorado County and has two forks of the Cosumnes River named after him. Anyway, my cousin Nadine was finally able to make the trip out here to take a look around and dig through the county history museum archives. As suspected, she found the basic information that we've all found - stories about him and his mines but no records of either. We haven't been able to find any official documents that have to do with him or his mine with the exception of one census. She's talked with several agencies in that county (both county and federal) and has come up short. There are no indications of his mines having been in the locations they're supposed to have been in. But, she's been happy to see the town (Grizzly Flat) and dig through the archives. She's also met some wonderful people that have been a big help to her. She just adores Isabel (of course).
We met her and her sister-in-law for dinner last night in Placerville. Isabel was full of smiles and caught the attention of one of the servers. That led to two other booths commenting on how cute she is. Isabel made a happy squeal sound and I thought there might be a rush to get hugs & kisses from her! She is quite the attention grabber.
