As with the last few well-baby check-ups, her doctor is a little concerned about her weight. I like to think of it as being pre-concerned. She's still growing and her development is right on target. But, her weight percentile keeps going up and down, and now it's lower than the last time we were in and might possibly be the lowest percentile yet.
So, for now we need to up her intake of calorie dense foods and make sure she drinks enough milk. At the doctor's recommendation we've added pediasure to her diet as well. I'm okay with pediasure temporarily, and especially if it seems to be helping, but I don't think I would have chosen that product without the doctor's urging. The second ingredient is sugar. Boo. We try really hard to keep sugar out of her diet as it really isn't necessary for a 1-year-old. Anyhoo - we'll get it a try and see what happens.
I'm happy to report - since Isabel has been the smallest in her group almost since the group formed - she now has a thin twin! Yes, there is another baby out there that is also on weight watch. I think the two of them need to get together and babble about what they have in common : )
Isabel and her friend RipleyWe bought a silverware set for toddlers & Busybel is quite fond of feeding herself. We'll load the spoon or fork and hand it over. She has a very good aim and gets 99% of the food in her mouth. The 1% lands near her mouth, just not in it. She doesn't seem to be the kind of kid (yet) who likes to be a messy eater. I'm hoping it stays that way.
